Did you know this is how modern computer graphics processors render interesting surfaces nowdays - it takes too much GPU/CPU cycles to compute the curved surface / geometry of the dip then shade it with lighting - instead you use a rough and ready shader program to add some darkness as you approach key points - in this case the the division between bands - basically spoofing the shadow without having to work out the geometry of a curved surface.... anyway sorry for the geekfest but I was particularly impressed with how a real world mechanical artistic process seems to optimise processing in the same way cutting edge 3d and games apps do on PCs and consoles :)

Lunar Eclipse 2011
I was hoping to get the moon going behind Carlsbad power station but
it just got too hazy and light by the time the moon was that low....
There's a couple of photos from 5:50am->. Plus a couple showing my
setup. My exif time data seems a bit screwed up (timezone and DST...)

Chris Goodman - RIP
Chris Goodman - RIP, a set on Flickr.
My friend Chris Goodman passed away on Oct 23rd. Chris was a super guy and lit up everyone's life he came into contact with. He will be sorely missed by his 3 brothers, wife and everyone that knew him. I'm so sorry I cannot make it to the funeral on Monday 7th is Wirksworth. My feelings are best summed up by looking at the photo of my son Toby, who though he only got to meet him a few times, thoroughly adored him.
